Nurture Marple

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play, children learn how to learn.”

Parent Partnership & Settling In

We believe that your child’s life at nursery should be a partnership between parents and practitioners and we welcome parents’ involvement at every stage. Communication between home and nursery is paramount to your child benefitting the most from his/her time with us.

Each family will be designated their own special ‘Nurturer’. This is a staff member who is devoted to you and your child as a focal point throughout their time with us. They are the person who you can ask advice, information and support from, and is someone who will get to know you and your child very well.

There will be numerous times throughout the year when you can come and formally look at your child’s achievements at nursery, see their individual development records and have the opportunity to add to this, sharing observations you have made at home. However, the best communication is daily when you are dropping off or picking up. Tell us whether they slept well or what toys or hobbies they have been pursuing at home. Staff are always available to talk to parents and we actively encourage you to enter into dialogue with us.

For observation, assessment and tracking of children’s progress we use an online interactive learning journal called “Parent Zone”. This is password protected and only you can see the infomation about your child. You can login and keep track of what your child has been up to during the day, including feeding, sleeping and nappy changing.

We will also work closely with you to help mirror any routines from home asking you to share your child’s likes, dislikes, routines and any special requirements. This will help us to make sure your child feels comfortable and secure once in the setting.

Nurture operates an open door policy. You are truly welcome to visit at any time, come to see us in action, drop by for a chat or phone up to ask a question or check how your child has settled.

The Curriculum

As a statutory requirement we follow the governments “Early Years Foundation Stage” curriculum which provides guidelines for all Nurseries
and Reception classes, with regards to the fundamental principles for the care and education of the under 5s across the country.

For all children, there are 3 Prime Areas of Learning and Development.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical Development

Communication and Language

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Once children have secured the foundations within the prime area of learning, we will then support and develop children's specific area's of development promoting school readiness for the next stage of their learning journey.

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

In order to achieve this, the document clearly sets out 3 main elements a nursery should focus on to ensure effective learning. These are:

Allowing children to play
and explore

-Playing with things they know

 -Finding things out

-Encouraging them to ‘have a go’ at new or difficult tasks

Encouraging children to be
active learners

-Involving them in activities

-Developing their concentration skills

-Supporting them to keep trying

-Celebrate and enjoy their sense of achievement

Developing creativity and critical thinking skills

-Listening to children’s ideas

-Encourage them to ask questions

-Helping them to make links between activities

-Choosing their own way of doing things

Food & Nutrition

We know that a healthy, balanced diet can influence your child’s development by aiding concentration, maintaining good health, giving them energy, and helping them to grow. We believe that we have a responsibility to instill healthy eating habits in children and that they should be encouraged to eat well, enjoy a wide variety of foods and be encouraged to try new things.

Food should be nutritious, fresh and fun and we strive to combine all three! Our meals are prepared in house every day and are healthy, balanced, and enjoyable. We cater for special dietary requirements on request and on consultation with parents.

Purees for babies are made fresh. Care and consideration is given to individual feeding requirements and to the introduction of new feeding stages.

We have a separate dining area, away from the distraction of play, where staff are encouraged to sit down and eat with the children. Children will be encouraged to use a knife and fork, develop table manners and learn that mealtimes should be an enjoyable social experience.
